Focus of research:
The Department carries out scientific information work and research in the fields of sociology, social psychology and social anthropology. Its primary tasks include informing the scientific community about the state and development trends of social sciences in Russia and abroad, as well as providing informational and methodological support for sociological education.
Key activities of the Department’s staff include the preparation of materials for Series 11, “Sociology”, of the journal “Social Sciences and Humanities. Domestic and Foreign Literature”. This periodical provides readers with insights into significant areas of fundamental sociological research. Since 2017, “Social Sciences and Humanities. Domestic and Foreign Literature. Series 11: Sociology” has redirected its focus, increasing the inclusion of analytical content. The journal's issues feature scientific reviews, articles, summaries, translations, and critiques that span a wide range of theoretical and applied sociology topics, specialized sociological disciplines, and social psychology.
Since 2009, the Department has carried out the editorial preparation of the “Sociological Yearbook”. This publication is a collaborative project between the ISISS RAS and the Department of General Sociology at the Higher School of Economics. The “Yearbook”’s issues are organized into thematic sections that encompass analytical articles, scientific translations, and summaries addressing the history and current challenges of theoretical sociology, sociological subdisciplines, and interdisciplinary topics.
Besides its regular periodicals, the Department frequently prepares collections of scientific papers and translations for the “Theory and History of Sociology” series.
Research findings by the Department’s staff are published in both Russian and international journals, including those indexed by notable scientific citation databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and RSCI.
