Image Catalogues of the INION RAN Branch of the OBBO

INION RAN is actively developing a network of image catalogues for its branches. Currently, catalogues are available for 7 departments of library and bibliographic services:

• The Institute of Archaeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
• The Institutes of Russian and World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences (located on the territory of the IRIS RAN);
• The Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences (its collection has been relocated to the INION Library on Nakhimovsky Prospekt);
• The Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
• The Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
• The Central Economics and Mathematics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences;
• The Institute of Philosophy of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

On the main page of each department's catalogue, users can find updated contact information, such as the address, phone number, email, opening hours, and brief instructions for book ordering.

This innovation permits readers to book necessary printed work found in the image catalogue remotely, thus saving time and increasing user comfort by enabling advance preparation for visits to the reading room to consult the selected materials. INION RAN strives to improve the quality of service and make access to library resources more convenient and efficient.

An experimental project has been initiated to create an image catalog for the Library and Bibliographic Services Department (LBS) of the Fundamental Library of INION RAN at the Institute of Archaeology of RAN. This image catalog facilitates remote access to the department's alphabetical and system catalogs, with an additional feature for automatically recognizing the contents of bibliographic cards for search queries (excluding certain types, such as handwritten cards). The project was developed in line with the Concept of the Program for the Creation of an Automated Library Information System for Social Sciences at INION RAN (pursuant to the Resolution of the Presidium of the RAN No. 92 of May 28, 2019, “Humanities and Problems of Preserving the Historical and Cultural Heritage of Russia”). Future plans include the development of similar image catalogs for all departments of the Fundamental Library of the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
